Nice Idea Michael. I'll be glad to help in any way possible.

I can think of a number of charities that could use the proceeds. The first that comes to mind is the Jimmy Fund, which is to help kids with Cancer. Also, there's St. Jude's Research Hospital, which is pretty much a "last chance" place for kids with cancer.

Frankly, those two are nearest and dearest to my heart, although I have (Thank God) no personal reason to have had any contact with them. Why? I suppose because my wife and I were never able to have children, so the thought of someone losing there kid to cancer is almost unbearable.

I support the Jimmy Fund personally, and will probably add St. Jude's to my list of giving this year.

I agree with Don...The Saint Jude's Research Hospital has been receiving donations from me for many years.
Since I'm battling with cancer myself this would be my first choice, but any charity is fine with me.

I would be happy to donate a Premium set of string tuners for the guitar. Nice ones!! Name brand like Gotoh or Schaller.
Thanks, Walter

why don't you try talking to someone like LMI or some other kit supplier to see if they would be interested in donating a kit for the project and the guitar could be built from the kit. This could even be some positive advertising for the company that donates the kit. The "build" could be documented and advertised on this site as well as possibly the company's site that supplies the kit. I think we could get some real mileage out of it if it is done properly.

Michael,

Great idea.

Robbie, also a great idea. Documenting the build process is a really good way to get folks interested in the guitar. I bet LMI or Stew-Mac would go for it.

I'm not sure how I could help but it sounds like a great idea. Has any thought been given on where it will be auctioned to produce maximum $$$. eBay may give a free listing on the home page? I've seen them do it for other high $ items.

Well, let me know if there's anything a rank amatuer can do to help... like maybe stand over someone's shoulder and kibbutz?

I'd be happy to help too. My skill are not on a par with others here, but I could donate something that was needed.

I think a kit may be a good idea but will somewhat limit what members can contribute. By doing a scratch build those that don't feel their building skills are ready to put on the line can contribute materials such as brace stock, binding stock, purfling stock, bridge, strings, nut and saddle materials. To get LMI and StewMac involved we can ask them for maybe a precarved neck, truss rod, fret wire and such. I just think this way more members can be involved. Just a though. But I would not be apposed if we deside to go with a kit.MichaelP38510.5089351852

Count me in for contributing something other than skill.
